Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME gTLD is the only one intended for personal websites only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other titles people are known by. At the beginning, solely third-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to buy john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already registered third-level domain names remained online.
